Autumn, Year 760 of the New Age

Silverthorne, Ashen Plains-Silver Vale edge

Plot: Sila gets bothered by a golden stag, and Ru kicks his butt.

Sila

Gold. She wished she was born with an ashen color. Or maybe that lovely shade of chestnut her sister, Aeon had. Even the dark shade of grey her father had would be better.

The golden stag chased her around. It was hard to avoid him, with 2 little fawns behind her.

He was determined to win her. He had been one of the young stags of around her age, a grandson to one of the old gossip ladies that felt like it was wrong for her to hang out with Aldra & Soma. Sure they had been right about Soma, but he was a crossbred.

Her children were getting tired. The constant nagging of the stag, him trying to get them babysitted by somebody, shooing them away…

She did the only thing she hoped would help: she tried to find Ruibh, the father of her youngest.

Ruibh

The day had been long, and tedious but rut was often that way.  Happy to be off patrol, allowed to take a personal day, he breathed a breath of relief.  He needed to check on his daughter.  While he saw Eleanor every day, his others weren’t as easily accessible.  But as luck would have him, he looked up to see one such golden doe headed his directions.

She looked exhausted, panting and breathless.  Behind her ran two fawns, his daughter Charani and her other fawn Idril.  Both, equally, if not more exhausted than their mother.  The dark stag’s brows arched together as the golden filly came between his front legs.

He stared as his daughter’s mother came to a stop, “Sila, you all look exhausted.  What is wrong?”  He looked down to firefly between his hooves, her chest rising and falling rapidly.  Anger welling up inside of him.  He stood alert and ready to attack, “It’s not a predator is it?”

Sila

Sila was glad to see Ruibh. Overtime, she had come to really appreciate him. They didn’t love each other, but he didn’t … act like a jerk all the time. Sure he had this moments, but when she saw him with his mate … Even when it pained her in her heart, she recognized love when she saw it.

“No, trough I would almost wish it was. I can toss fire at a predator.”  She glared behind her, hoping she’d lost the persistent stag. To bad that wasn’t going to be the case.

“Sila!”

That voice made her ears hurt. “Get lost! Get eaten by a lion!”

The golden stag paraded towards her. Charani needed rest, and food, and so did Idril. Sila wasn’t an exception. “Sila, my dear, I’ve found you again … with your lovely daughters ..” The golden stag paraded in front of her, getting closer, and totally ignoring Ruibh. “Why don’t you come with me to some place more quiet? We can leave your children with your … babysitter.” Sila’s ears lay flat in her neck.

Ruibh

If he hadn’t been witnessing the barely faint appearance of the two fawns beside her, he might have laughed at the amusing behavior of the unrelenting stag.  He had seen some disparate bucks before but this one beat them all.

The arrogant stag stepped closer to his family, his eyes floated over to the wary fawns before looking at Sila’s exhausted expression.  Rage bubbled up inside of him, forcing him to lung forward at the stag hardly thinking of the consequences.  “I think that’s about enough.  Can you not see that my children,” he paused for a moment, Idril wasn’t his, nor did she think she was, but this idiotic stag didn’t need to know that, “and my doe are weak with exhaustion?”

He stepped between the golden stag and the doe, “It would be best if you left now.  Perhaps you should find a doe your own age, and your own - intelligence.  Sila is obviously much too classy and clever to ever choose a stag of your character.”  He said quickly, prepared for the outburst that was sure to come.

Sila

Sila grinned. Ruibh referred to Idiril as his, but she currently didn’t care. She was glad to be able to catch her breath for a second. She let her daughters take some rest, and let them eat a little, after soothing them.

The golden stag didn’t seem to get the hint. He seemed pretty keen to challenge Ruibh for Sila.

Sila snapped. “Ow please! You’re really thinking you can beat Ruibh? Even a child can see you’re not a match for him.”

Suddenly, her attitude changed. “Then again, why don’t you fight him.”

She looked at Ruibh, she knew it was an un-even fight … Ruibh had to much advantage, more experience, more strenght.  But hell, she’d love to see him get what’s coming for him!

I would love to fight for your honor, Sila!

“Ow for Luan’s sake ... “ Sila had no idea why some of them were so stupid. “I swear, some stags get to many stories in their head as fawns. Ruibh .. could you please ram some brains into him? Grian knows where it went.” She rolled her eyes.

Ruibh

The dark stag hadn’t be a stranger to the challenges step up by your golden coats.  They had been raise to be arrogant and overconfident in their own abilities.  He didn’t much enjoy teaching them a lesson but it was a lesson that a stag needed to learn, especially if he were ever going to challenge another stag for a proper mate.

He lowered his antlers, prepared to take his opponent.  The golden stag fused his eyebrows and growled before launching forward, obviously angered by Sila’s mocking.  Ruibh caught the golden colt’s smaller antlers and quickly had the stag on his knees.  The dark stag let up when the colt’s eyes grew large as a full moon with confusion and fear, it was obvious the colt had never fought with a mature stag.

“Let this be a lesson for future sparring matches, some will not be as - generous.”  He spoke sternly as the golden stag left, obviously beaten and with embarrassment.

The dark stag watched him for a moment before turning to his mate and fawn, “He shouldn’t be bothering you any longer.  Don’t be afraid to come to me sooner if needed.  I keep my word Sila, I will always protect you and your fawns until you choose for me to no longer do so.”  He smiled, watching the golden fawns curled up, sound asleep at their mother’s feet, now able to rest.

Sila

Sila watched the golden idiot clash with Ruibh, and he clearly didn’t stand a change. Ruibh quickly took him out, and gave him a chance to get out. She wouldn’t have done that if she was him. But she wasn’t him.

The golden idiot quickly ran, probably embarrassed he lost to a fawnling so dark. She rolled her eyes at seeing him run like that.

“Thank you.” Sila smiled at Ruibh. She was glad her children finally had the rest they needed, and she finally had some as well. “I think think they’ll be stupid enough to try that again anytime soon. But then again, when they’re golden, some have this … arrogance.” Coming from a golden doe with golden eyes, that was a little weird … but she did mean every word of it.

“Thank you Ruibh.” She thanked him again, and looked about ready to join her girls in a healing sleep.
